About Therion-Babalon Oasis, O.T.O.
Formed at the turn of the 20th century, Ordo Templi Orientis is an international society of men and women who aspire to spiritual attainment and self-realization within a fraternal environment. The overarching aim of the Order is to assist mankind in accomplishing the Great Work of discovering and manifesting each individual's True Will—often defined as one's deepest, most genuine spiritual self—which is the basis of our belief system called Thelema. O.T.O. does this through(1) offering a system of initiation providing a fraternal, philosophical, and mystical path for individual members,
(2) the development of a society based on Thelemic principles, and
(3) promulgating the Law of Thelema into the world at large. The foundation of these efforts is informed by the Art of Magick and the philosophy of Aleister Crowley.
O.T.O. does not claim to know what anyone's True Will is—no one can, and that's why we don't have "gurus" or spiritual authorities. However, we do offer an environment wherein members can discover it for themselves, which we accomplish through the use of various ceremonies, rituals, esoteric education, and the development of supportive communities.
Therion-Babalon Oasis is one such community. We are a chartered local body of U.S. Grand Lodge O.T.O., and located in Berkeley, California. Our main activities include the weekly celebration of our central ritual, the Gnostic Mass, as well as the administration of the introductory O.T.O. ceremonies of initiation. We also offer informal events and services that support the Work of our members and extend Thelemic culture.
